Sheikh Mohammed Announces Plans for National University of Dubai

Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has disclosed his vision to put into operation the National University of Dubai. Thus, based on an investment of Dh4. 5 billion ($1. 22 billion) during the first five years, the university has its vision to be ranked among the top 50 young universities of the world in the next ten years. The announcement which was done through sheikh Mohammed thru X account focuses on the fact that this institution is uniquely Emirati and fosters academic programs that are future oriented and specialized.

In his message on World Government Day, Sheikh Mohammed has noted that education for the future generations has to be geared towards preparing them to apply their skills in the ever-changing globe. The real challenge is to produce generations capable of managing such change and to utilize them for developing a better future for ourselves and our country,” he pointed out the task of the university in building the future of the nation.

Unlike conventional institutions, Sheikh Mohammed referred to the National University of Dubai as a ‘lamp of learning’ and birthplace of first generation of Emirati youths. University will strive to educate leaders possessing the modern sciences, skills and values having regard to the current dynamics.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, was the appointed as the supreme president while Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed was his deputy and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed as the chairman of the board of trustees. He also spoke about the importance of the university in leadership development of the youths, focus on research and innovations and contribution to social and economical development.

The setting up of the National University of Dubai is fitting the UAE’s effort to improve the quality of its educational system and going global. This will put emphasis on research creative and innovative thinking and the generation of leadership that will enhance the city’s position as educational powerhouse of Dubai.
