Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome Hollywood’s cameras once again as “Dune: Part Three” gears up to begin filming later this year. The much-anticipated movie, scheduled for release in December 2026, will return to the Liwa Desert, which has already played a starring role in the franchise’s depiction of the desert planet Arrakis.
The Abu Dhabi Film Commission confirmed the news, stating that the city’s iconic dunes will once again feature on the big screen. Logistical support will be provided by the Creative Media Authority and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, with local powerhouse Image Nation Abu Dhabi joining as a production partner.
The return of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya to their leading roles adds to the excitement, while Jason Momoa has also confirmed his return in this installment after his character’s absence in Part Two. The film will be directed once again by Denis Villeneuve, who has emphasized that this new chapter will have its own unique identity rather than serving as the conclusion of a trilogy.
Abu Dhabi has firmly established itself as a major hub for international filmmaking, hosting productions such as “F1 The Movie,” starring Brad Pitt, and the upcoming “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.” With world-class facilities, expansive landscapes, and strong institutional support, the emirate continues to attract top-tier global projects.
As Villeneuve shapes the next chapter of Dune, Abu Dhabi’s desert will once again provide the breathtaking backdrop that has captivated audiences worldwide. For the UAE, the return of Dune underscores its growing reputation as a global destination for cinema and culture.
