Abu Dhabi is preparing to welcome Hollywood's cameras once again as Dune: Part Three gears up to begin filming later this year. The much-anticipated sequel, scheduled for release in December 2026, will return to the Liwa Desert — the sweeping golden dunes that have already played a starring role in the franchise's depiction of the desert planet Arrakis.
Abu Dhabi Film Commission Confirms the Return
The Abu Dhabi Film Commission confirmed that the emirate's iconic sand seas will once again feature on the big screen. Logistical support will be provided by the Creative Media Authority and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, with local production powerhouse Image Nation Abu Dhabi joining as a production partner.
Returning Cast and Director
The return of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya to their leading roles adds to the excitement surrounding the production. Jason Momoa has also confirmed his return in this installment after his character's absence in Part Two.
The film will be directed once again by Denis Villeneuve, who has emphasized that this new chapter will carry its own unique identity rather than simply serving as the conclusion of a trilogy.
Abu Dhabi Cements Its Place as a Filmmaking Hub
Abu Dhabi has firmly established itself as a major hub for international filmmaking in recent years. The emirate has hosted major productions including "F1 The Movie," starring Brad Pitt, and the upcoming "Now You See Me: Now You Don't." With world-class facilities, expansive desert landscapes, and strong institutional support, Abu Dhabi continues to attract top-tier global projects.
As Villeneuve shapes the next chapter of Dune, Abu Dhabi's desert will once again provide the breathtaking backdrop that has captivated audiences worldwide. For the UAE, the return of Dune underscores its growing reputation as a global destination for cinema and culture.
