Celebrating Sheikh Mohammed’s 75th Birthday: A Look Back at His Visionary Leadership

It is 75 years today, Monday, July 15th, that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was born.

In the past, as of the year 2006, Sheikh Mohammed became the ruler of Dubai and his leadership has been revolutionary. It has to do with the modernization of Dubai that has been made by Al Maktoum’s leadership; current progress is continued under the framework of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan focused on sustainable development.

Early Years

Sheikh Mohammed was born on 15th July 1949 to Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in the Al Maktoum house situated in Al Shindagha. He is the third of four brothers to HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He was home-schooled beginning at the age when most children have begun to attend school, that is at the age of four years, then he joined a local primary school when he was six years old.

Education

Later in the year 1966, under the scholarship, Sheikh Mohammed at the age of seventeen years moved to England to study English in Cambridge. He then joined Mons Officer Cadet School-Aldershot which is now referred to as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he trained as the best student in the Commonwealth. After his comeback to Dubai in 1968, Rashid was promoted to head of both Dubai Police and Public Security at the mere age of 19. Three years later he was made the youngest defence minister of the world.

Ruling Dubai

Sheikh Mohammed became Ruler of Dubai on 4 January 2006 and was appointed as the Vice President of UAE on 5 January 2006. During February 11th 2006 he was appointed as the Prime Minister of the UAE by the then President of UAE H. H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohammed has been on the forefront overseeing a number of projects in the region that has established Dubai as a world class city of innovation, tourism, and economic development. They have come to symbolise his dedication to the sustainable growth and further development of Dubai as captured in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan .
