Mohammed Bin Rashid Arabic Language Award Highlights Global Arabic Language Promotion

On the occasion of the opening of International Arabic Language Conference, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Arabic Language Award held eighth today under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Organised in the presence of H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the occasion honored people, organisations and groups for their outstanding work in the spreading and preservation of Arabic both within and beyond the UAE.

This is in accordance with the measures being proposed by Her Highness Sheikha Latifa, which underlined the need to participate in projects to develop the Arabic language as an important part of culture and the world heritage. Open to different fields including education, technology, media and Arabization, the award comes to evidence the versatility of Arabic as a language of the future.

The Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, stressed that the award was created to draw people’s attention to the importance of Arabic and use it as a language to unite nations. He pointed out that the award has a tactical function of sustaining the language and encouraging new development.

This year’s award attracted the biggest number of entries from 65 countries with a 76% rise as compared to last year indicating the increased global interest in Arabic language projects. Some of these interventions are; Global Curriculum Initiative for Teaching Arabic to Children from Egypt, the Simah Certificate from France, the Dar Academies Project from UAE.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Arabic Language Award has disbursed over AED2.8 million in prizes since its creation and has saluted over 60 winners, who greatly contributed to the advancement of Arabic all around the world.
