Source: Xinhua A seminar on media cooperation under the BRI was conducted in Hawalli Governorate, Kuwait, on May 20, 2024, and the event garnered a lot of attention, and positive interactions with participants from the community. It was co-organized by the Xinhua News Agency Middle East Bureau and Chinese embassy in Kuwait, and more than 70 representatives from Kuwaiti media such as Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait State Television, some Kuwait newspapers attended this event.
It is important to highlight that the seminar took place within the framework of the ten-year anniversary of the China-Kuwait BRI cooperation agreement. Topics that emerged for discussions include the media contribution towards the promotion of the BRI in compliance with the Kuwait 2035 vision and the Chinese Kuwait media in the global arena.
For instance, in his speech, the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei mentioned that in the last ten years, the China-Kuwait BRI cooperation has registered various successes in the economic, trading, and cultural domains. He also underlined the role of people-to-people contacts underlining that the media has a key role to play in such contacts. Zhang spoke of his side’s desire for more media cooperation to deepen the bilateral relations between China and Kuwait.
Khaled Al-Mahdi, Secretary-General of Kuwait’s Supreme Council for Planning and Development, stated that BRI cooperation had a positive effect on participating countries. Kuwait, being one of the early adopters of the BRI, is gradually aligning Kuwait’s 2035 National Vision with BRI milestones.
In his presentation, Deputy Chief of the Xinhua News Agency Middle East Bureau, Wu Zhongmin, discussed the cooperation between Xinhua and Kuwait media and specifically touched on advancements in media coordination and growth.
It also garnered government officials, media outlets, and cultural and business communities from both nations with talks about the implementation and development of BRI between China and Kuwait.
