Indian sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD will make its global streaming debut simultaneously on both, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, which makes them revolutionize the industry. It will be a twofold release on both digital platforms on the 22nd of August, 2024 where audiences around the globe can watch the movie in different languages.
It can now be watched in the original Telugu as Kalki 2898 AD and in other languages – Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam – with English subtitles on Prime Video. On the same day, the Hindi dubbed version will be also ready for streaming on Netflix. The film has grossed almost $131,000,000 within the cinema halls and is one of the biggest grossing films of the year so far and is the inaugural film of the Kalki Cinematic Universe.
At its setting in dystopian and post-apocalyptic near-future world devoid of natural light and with tyrannical ruling of the omnipotent psychopath Kalki, the protagonist is Bhairava – the bounty hunter. The universe of the film was initially introduced through the animated series B&B: Bujji & Bhairava, which is available only on Prime Video. The movie which is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies with Nag Ashwin as the director has a perfect cast list of inducible actors such as Prabhas as Bhairava, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani.
Manish Menghani, Director of Content Licensing of Prime Video India, particularly underlined the importance of the film adding that ‘Kalki 2898 AD has enthralled viewers with its world-building and presenting a world 100 years in the future.
The lead actor, Prabhas, noted how he felt that this hybrid between mythology and the future era is truly interesting and bars the film. “Getting an opportunity to work in Kalki 2898 AD with a director like Naga [Nag Ashwin] and such a fantastic team has been exhilarating,” he added.
Producer C Aswani Dutt ensured the streaming of the film was a special one as it was the 50th anniversary of Vyjayanthi Movies. To this, Ashwin mentioned that the project is to go beyond the conventional social divides and bring out Indian mythology to the world.
Kalki 2898 AD with its unique release strategy and a story that will be a very attempt at redefining India on the big screen is all set to leave a mark in the Indian cinema.
