Eddie Diaz - first manager of the UAE National Baseball Team
Good news for sports lovers in the UAE – the country has been preparing for the establishment of its first National Baseball Team. This arrival is following the heels of Dubai; the emirate’s plan to construct the region’s first professional baseball field and ballpark in the Sevens sports and entertainment complex on Al Ain Road. Specifically, the ballpark will be unique, the first of its nature not only in the UAE but across the GCC and more broadly in the Middle East and South Asia.
UAE baseball is forecasted to rise at the soonest possible time, in Arab Classic to be held from November 7-10, 2024. It will be the biggest baseball event in the region where eight teams including India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and host nation UAE will participate.
Eddie Diaz, a Hall of Fame manager with more than 40 years of coaching experience in the professional baseball, has accepted a role of a head coach for the UAE’s National Baseball Team. Diaz, who takes the Yaquis de Obregón team to Mexico’s Pacific League three consecutive titles, is expected to lead UAE to triumph in its first baseball competition.
Diaz has been endorsed for leadership by Kash Shaikh, the Chairman and CEO of Baseball United, who noted that Diaz is not only a great motivator, but also a person who genuinely cares about people; the UAE Baseball team in particular is expected to give great performance in the next Arab Classic.
