Dubai Launches $408 Million Al Fay Street Development Project to Ease Traffic

Dubai RTA: Al Fay Street Development Project AED 1.5 Billion ($408 Million) Award That Determines Roads and Transport Authority’s Strategy of the Emirate of Dubai.

Increasing Connection and Capability
The project, which has been approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and supervised by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will be from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road via Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and up to Emirates Road. They are five; crosses both vertical and horizontal with a total of 13,500 meters of bridges and 12,900 meters of roads. On its completion, the Al Fay Street has the capacity to channel 64,400 vehicles per hour thereby benefiting; the residential and developed areas with a population of 600000.

Importantly, many leaders are trying to undertake strategic infrastructure upgrades, most of which don’t have a clear timeline as to when they will be complete.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, the project will be a major game changer of Dubai’s roads network. ‘Through the project, improved east-west connection is created as well as providing smooth interaction between the main roads of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road as well,’ he said.

It will address the growth of several zones such as the Dubai Sports City, The Jumeirah Village Circle Damac Lagoons, The Oasis as well as Tilal Al Ghaf, involving road users as its beneficiaries.

Key Features of the Project

First Intersection: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will be designed to accommodate 3,200 vehicles an hour by twin two-lane bridges, and two other bridges connecting Jumeirah Village Circle will accommodate 6,400 vehicles an hour.
Second and Third Intersections: Traffic interchange will handle over 14400 Auto per hour, new connection will open up access to Dubai Production City and other assemblies of Dubai Sports City.
Fourth and Fifth Intersections: These will contain bridges that will allow U-turns between Al Fay Street and Emirates Road especially to the areas such as Al Awir and Sharjah.
