According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), a large new road project will soon transform the way vehicles travel in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Khail Road, featuring new tunnels, bridges and expanded highways.
Part of the city’s wider plan for infrastructure, the road from Umm Suqeim Street’s intersection with Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road will also be improved. The project is designed to connect areas more, help city growth and reduce traffic in regions settled by over two million people.
Four bridges and three tunnels will be built across six major intersections on the new plan, with the aim of reducing the time needed to go from Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road from 20 to six minutes. There will be a two-lane tunnel at Jumeirah Street, one at Al Wasl Street and bridges built on Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. Another dedicated tunnel will take vehicles from Al Barsha onto Sheikh Zayed Road.
The development is a part of the master plan from RTA to create a 20km corridor from Jumeirah to Al Qudra Road. It also has improved walking paths, separate cycling areas and nice upgraded boulevards to support friendly areas for everyone. An important benefit is the stronger connection between Mall of the Emirates Metro Station and the nearby residential areas.
RTA has finished approximately 70% of a 4.6km project that links Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and this stretch includes an 800m tunnel by Kings’ School in Al Barsha South.
Also, improvements are taking place on Al Qudra Road as new bridges of 2.7km are being constructed and another 11.6km of road are being widened. With this project, the time spent traveling will be cut down from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes and it will focus on important junctions near Arabian Ranches, Dubai Studio City and Jebel Ali.
RTA works to ensure Dubai’s streets are prepared for the future and simple to access nearby landmarks.
