All these methods aim at improving passengers’ comfort and safety as well as providing higher levels of services, which are characteristic for Dubai’s transit system vision.
Elements of the plan were presented by Adel Shakri the Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency. These are increased training of taxi drivers and instructors, increasing the cleanliness standards of the vehicles and a pilot project of the use of high quality deodorizing sprays in over 500 airport taxis. RTA is also using Intelligent Transport System for in-car camera promote the detection of smokers and increasing inspection crusade for hygiene and safety among taxi cars.
In order to measure the effectiveness of these measures, RTA has adopted monthly operational index performance indicators of cleanliness of vehicles and the drivers in addition to customers’ satisfaction questionnaires and mystery shopper tests. From 2025, these assessments will also include the state of both vehicle and the driver.
“The initiatives demonstrate commitment to innovation and quality delivery of transport solutions,” pointed out Shakri. “They support the vision of Dubai’s smart city and seek to provide a cleaner environment and safer and more comfortable ride for passengers.”
All these endeavours demonstrate RTA’s commitment to improving the emirate’s taxi sector for residents, tourists and visitors and reaffirm Dubai’s status as a city that is advancing sustainable and innovative solutions for the transport sector.
