Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a series of new strategies to improve taxi services across the emirate, aiming to raise passenger comfort, vehicle cleanliness, and overall service quality in line with Dubai's wider transport vision.
RTA's New Taxi Service Measures
The details were presented by Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA's Public Transport Agency. The initiative covers several areas: intensified training for taxi drivers and instructors, higher vehicle cleanliness standards, and a pilot programme deploying high-quality air fresheners in more than 500 airport taxis.
RTA is also leveraging its Intelligent Transport System to deploy AI-based in-car cameras capable of detecting smoking violations inside vehicles. This is supported by stepped-up inspection campaigns targeting hygiene and safety standards across the Dubai taxi fleet.
Performance Tracking and Mystery Shopper Tests
To measure the effectiveness of these measures, RTA has introduced monthly operational performance indices covering vehicle and driver cleanliness, including tracking observations per 100,000 Hala Taxi trips. Customer satisfaction surveys and mystery shopper assessments will be conducted semi-annually starting in 2025, with evaluations covering both vehicle condition and driver presentation.
Dubai's Smart City Transport Vision
Adel Shakri said: "The initiatives demonstrate commitment to innovation and quality delivery of transport solutions. They support the vision of Dubai's smart city and seek to provide a cleaner environment and safer and more comfortable ride for passengers."
RTA's coordinated push across training, technology, and monitoring reflects the authority's ongoing commitment to improving the emirate's taxi sector — for residents, tourists, and visitors alike — and reinforces Dubai's reputation as a global leader in sustainable, innovative transport solutions.
