UAE Announces Electric Vehicle(EV) Charging Fees Starting 2025

It has taken the country a few months to introduce fresh charging fees for EVs that are mandatory to apply from January next year, a new turn in the green mobility transformation. It comes after UAEV, the country’s first state-owned EV charging network operated free operations at most of its stations for several months.

Based on the newly implemented tariffs, EV users will be charged AED 1.2 per kWh of DC charger, and AED 0.7 per kWh of AC charger, both inclusive of VAT. Standardised fees set is designed to address equalisation of access, efficiency and sustainability with the overall sustainability strategy of the UAE.

”This is a revolutionary step for the UAE in terms of sustainable transportation,” Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Chairman of UAEV. “The action of introducing the standardized tariffs, and the innovative solutions which are presented in the UAEV application are an example of our focus on the improvement of the experience of electric vehicle drivers and the results of achieving the goals outlined within the framework of the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategy.

To support the EV owners, UAEV will now release an easy-to-use application with options such as the real-time status of the stations, easy and secure payments for the charging as well as direction to the nearest charging stations. To support the app, there will be a 24/7 call center to offer prompt support at any one time making the application responsive and reliable.

As for the number of charging stations, UAEV aims at 1,000 stations within the targeted locations in the urban centres, highways and transit terminals in all the seven emirates by 2030. This initiative ensures that everyone from intercity and intracity travelers would have access to this service while deepening the UAE’s environmental goal of lowering the carbon footprint and encouraging eco-friendly transport.

The choice of topics corresponds to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy. The main propositions of the integrated charging ecosystem of UAEV – reliability, accessibility, and innovations – make the company a leader in the country’s journey to a green future. EV users should expect to get improved services that align them better toward sustainable mobility solutions.
