Abu Dhabi has launched a $2 billion Global Water Platform, aimed at supporting the international water sector while improving access to clean and safe water in developing countries. The initiative, designed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), will also champion cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions for water resource management.

The platform plans to mobilise $2 billion (AED 7.34 billion) from local and international financial institutions, with an initial $1 billion allocation over five years (2026–2030). Its efforts are expected to benefit approximately 10 million people worldwide.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, the initiative focuses on ensuring access to clean water, promoting inclusive development, and supporting resilient communities globally.

Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADFD, highlighted that the platform reflects the UAE leadership’s vision in addressing global development challenges. He called for partnerships through joint financing, strategic collaborations, and knowledge exchange to accelerate technologies that enhance water security and empower developing nations.

Fatima Ateeq Al Mazrouei, Support Services Department Director at ADFD, noted that the platform will further solidify its role in delivering high-impact water projects through cooperation agreements. She added that the initiative also supports scientific research, youth-led applied programs, innovative financing solutions, and awareness campaigns addressing critical water-related issues.
