Dubai South and Evocargo Pioneer UAE’s Autonomous Vehicle Sector with Successful Trials

The largest single-urban master-development in the region specialized in aviation, logistics and real estate consistently continue the first phase of the UAV testing launched together with Evocargo in the UAE territory. The trials, which took place in Dubai South Logistics District, aimed at checking Evocargo’s unmanned electric truck named Evocargo N1 within the selected path and geographical territory that was encased.

The tests established features such as the suitability of the Evocargo N1 hardware, software, and service readiness for future use in the Logistics District. The navigational self-sufficiency was a subject of an evaluation so far as the aspects of safety in Frequently Intersecting Traffic were exercised with scenarios that included cooperative CAVs and pedestrians. These test examined how the truck performed particularly on object recognition, avoidance of an accident, avoiding a collision and making sudden stops. In relation to this, the performance of the autopilot system was also checked in driving through different operations like parking, reverse parking, and turning. Functionality of the control center involved in management of routes and remote control was also checked, and no failures or any hazardous events were recorded.

In the second stage, the platform of the vehicle Evocargo N1 took on tasks for freight transportation, which once again confirmed the possibility of performing the vehicle in mixed traffic conditions.

Mohsen Ahmad, the Chief Executive of the Logistics District at Dubai South that has been officially launched today, said that the company is going to actively contribute to the efforts to turn Dubai into the world’s foremost logistics hub. He said that self-driving cars will change the sphere by increasing productivity and decreasing the impact on the environment that will create a basis for a green and technological transportation system of the future.

Ahmed Al-Ansi, CEO of Evocargo Autonomous Logistic Services, stated that he is happy with the outcomes of the trials to show the company’s objective of delivering effective logistic service delivery in the area. He said that the trials actually have the strategic aim of seeking new customers and investments where the GCC countries want to market themselves as using latest technology.

In December 2022, the first UAE tests of AVs, in electric cars, were launched through a memorandum of understanding. This endeavour is in tune with Dubai’s vision 2020 and 2030, to deploy about 25 percent of transports through auto system which is predicted to inject AED 22 billion annually towards many sectors in the economy.
