Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport to Feature Underground Trains for Faster Travel

Al Maktoum International Airport known as DWC plans to achieve status as one of the globe’s largest airports through its construction of an underground train system that enhances both speed and operational efficiency.

Through a presentation at Arabian Travel Market 2025 Paul Griffiths revealed the information as Dubai Airports CEO. Passengers will be able to complete the underground train journey in twenty minutes according to the information shared by Paul Griffiths. According to Griffiths the expansive site requires 20-minute traveling time because we need to build an efficient and competitive system.

The final underground system design will provide seated train travel because the journey duration could range from 15 to 20 minutes. The airport aims to create quick safe transportation services which connect different terminals.

The train network at DWC will streamline passenger flow through its eight terminal-based facilities which combine to form a single massive complex. The airport dedicates these measures to diminish the physical travel required between points to optimize travel efficiency.

The train system development continues with comfort and speed and convenient access as primary goals and design directions. The project undergoes several design evaluations as Griffiths works to obtain the optimal results.

The airport developers have set the completion date for 2050. The initial phase of this development project aims to commence operations in 2030 while employing the capability to serve 130 million travelers per year.

Final construction plans of the airport will most likely diverge from existing blueprints because technology continues to make rapid progress. Stationing trains beneath the surface represents a substantial advancement in Dubai’s plans to transform aerospace transportation.
