The Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has confirmed that more than 700 AI-specialised businesses now operate across its three economic free zones — Dubai Airport Freezone, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai CommerCity. The milestone was announced on April 23, 2025, during Dubai AI Week 2025, positioning DIEZ as a central pillar in the UAE's push for global AI leadership.
Dubai AI Week 2025: A Platform for Landmark Announcements
Dubai AI Week 2025 ran from April 21 to 25, drawing over 8,000 attendees, 500 investors, 100 speakers, and exhibitors from more than 100 countries. The event was held at the Museum of the Future and Area 2071 at Emirates Towers, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. Under the coordination of the Dubai Center for Artificial Intelligence, the week showcased the emirate's collective efforts to establish itself as an international AI innovation hub.
It was against this backdrop that DIEZ chose to reveal the scale of its AI company ecosystem — a figure that underlines how comprehensively artificial intelligence has taken root across Dubai's free zones.
What the 700+ AI Companies Represent
Inside DIEZ's zones, multinationals and startups alike are developing a wide range of AI applications — from machine learning platforms and intelligent automation to advanced data analytics and cybersecurity solutions. The concentration of this talent reinforces DIEZ's alignment with two key national frameworks: the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031 and the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI, both designed to accelerate digital transformation across government and industry.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, placed the milestone in its strategic context: "The artificial intelligence strategy adopted by DIEZ reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aims to solidify the UAE's global leadership in AI and create agile and smart business environments that enhance the competitiveness of the national economy."
DIEZ's Three-Pillar AI Strategy
DIEZ's internal AI programme is built on three core pillars: people empowerment, customer value enhancement, and technology management. The authority is executing 12 high-impact strategic initiatives across these pillars, including:
- Autonomous service delivery to streamline business operations - AI-integrated document review and auditing tools for daily operations and company formation - Cybersecurity solutions tailored to address sector-specific risks and cyberattacks - Fraud detection platforms to protect businesses across the zones - Customer complaint and request platforms powered by data-driven intelligence - Training and recruitment systems that leverage AI for talent development
Together, these initiatives are designed to build an advanced business environment that drives sustainable innovation and economic competitiveness.
Dubai's Broader AI Ambitions
The DIEZ announcement arrives as Dubai accelerates its transformation into a global digital economy. The emirate's AI trajectory is supported by major infrastructure investments — including the District IO project, valued at AED 11 billion, which is designed to house over 6,500 global companies in AI, robotics, and quantum computing, with projected contributions of up to AED 103 billion to Dubai's GDP by 2036.
The 700-company milestone at DIEZ is both a marker of what has been achieved and a signal of what is still to come as Dubai consolidates its standing as the region's foremost technology and innovation destination.
