World’s Largest Mosaic Artwork Unveiled at Hatta

The project known as Brand Dubai, along with DEWA, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, recently revealed the Zayed and Rashid Mural that is by far the world’s biggest mosaic art located in Hatta. Located in the premises of the school an area of 2,198.7 sq m, the mural is dedicated to the founder of UAE Sheik Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan & Sheik Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. This modern sculpture honors these heroes and their vision as a part of the #ZayedAndRashid initiative in the spirit of several significant national dates from Flag Day to the 53rd anniversary of the United Arab Emirates on December the 2nd.

 

Located on the Hatta Dam Water Falls, it paints historical picture of the founding fathers of the early years UAE. It was crowned by the Guinness World Records and replaced another artwork on the site being a part of Dubai Street Museum project launched in 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The purpose of this project is to familiarize people with Dubai’s culture and vision using memorable artwork installations.

 

His excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer the CEO of DEWA, noted that the mural highlights the UAE’s cultural profile and its initiatives towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals such as construction of a 250MW hydro power plant at Hatta Dam. Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office appreciates the efforts put in the collaboration of converting relevant public spaces to messages of UAE accomplishment and its history.

 

Designed by russian artist Sergey Korbasov and more than 100 Craftsmen the mosaic is made of 1,2 Mln handcrafted pieces blended with materials from Hatta to unify with the local surroundings. This is symbolic representation of the emotions in the mural as well as the detailed work that one only expects from the face of the UAE; which is none other than the founding leaders. In a way it provides not only an Aesthetic asset in understanding the Hatta’s phenomenal story, but also an eye catching feature to the beautiful landscape of Hatta.
