UAE Lowers Driving Age to 17 and Introduces New Traffic Rules

The recent changes in UAE Traffic laws are that the Ministry of Interior has reduction in minimum driving age in UAE from 18 Years to 17 Years. The change that is set to would take in march 29, 2025, could mean that learners can start their driving trajectories at a youthful age. This was proclaimed on the government’s official X, formerly Twitter, along with other modifications meant to enhance the safety of roads and adapt legislation to the novelties in automotive technology.

The law adjustments also have the exact rules prescribing new car categories, which is attributed to the increasing embrace of Self-driving and EVs in the UAE. These modifications include those affecting inspection, licensing and registration procedures for autonomous cars to help these vehicles become seamlessly integrated into shared transportation modes.

Also, whilst there is aloof noise pollution, strictly all vehicles that produce noise beyond permitted limits, and all alarms from car security systems are banned from making noise in cities. Some exceptions to this rule making are possible only when alarms are required to avoid threats of imminent harm. Additional measures to help decrease the number of pedestrian casualties include laws against crossing roads with speed limits higher than 80 km/h, and crossing such roads already carries a criminal offense. The following are the rules governing the pedestrians to curtail on road accidents particularly on the areas deemed to have high speeds.

The changed laws also apply to hazardous materials whose carriage now needs a special permit. Tougher measures to deter more severe incidents are also included as well, including increased punishment for failure to stop and drive through flood waters. New severe consequences are now in place in cases of actions that lead to death or serious accidents, demoonstrating UAE’s concern for road safety.
