The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced that they will make fleet replacements of their mass transport systems with the new eco-friendly buses that are a part of 637 total new buses. This investment, amounting to Dhs1.1 billion, will lead to the supply of the new buses within the same range between 2025 and 2026, and this will be joined by 40 advanced electric buses.
This was announced at the globally-renowned UITP Global Public Transport Summit during which time four major agreements were signed in the presence of H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of RTA Board of Executive Directors. These include a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Chinese electric vehicle producer BYD, in which it is to trial an electric bus using the newest battery and technology advances in the fine climate of Dubai, including in the summer peak season.
All new buses are designed to comply with Euro 6 low-emission standards which is in line with the long-term environmental strategy of RTA to ensure that all public bus fleet is converted to use of electric power and hydrogen in this case by 2050.
This program can be added to other new programs by the RTA, like the pooling of buses that RTA introduced to people in Dubai. RTA regulates this door to door and cheap means of transportation that is supposed to facilitate the flow of traffic in order to provide convenient means of commuting.
Further, RTA will upgrade the road systems in 40 locations within the city in the summer months-during the school vacation and during low traffic occasioned by travel plans.
The above mentioned are just the pale background to the actual aim of public transport development in Dubai which is not only to improve the quality of transportation but also to cut on the carbon emissions of the city which aims at reducing the carbon footprint in the city to zero and offer world-class commute to locals as well as visitors.
The move by RTA will propel Dubai as a city leading the pack in sustainable urban transportation by having smart mobility and green energy as the agenda.
