The Dubai Metro has launched a sophisticated AI-enabled robot designed to dramatically speed up rail inspections while raising safety standards. Known as the Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System (ARIIS), the new platform aligns with Dubai's broader push to become a global leader in smart mobility and sustainable urban infrastructure.
What Is ARIIS?
The ARIIS has been deployed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in partnership with Keolis MHI and Future Maintenance Technologies (FMT). Using an array of LiDAR sensors, lasers, and 3D cameras, the robot autonomously inspects tracks and critical infrastructure systems during overnight maintenance windows — without interrupting daily metro operations.
The results are significant: inspection time has been reduced by 75%, compressing the workload from 2,400 man-hours down to just 700 man-hours.

ARIIS is currently deployed on selected metro lines, with plans to roll it out across the entire Dubai Metro network. Similar AI-powered inspection technology is also being explored for the Dubai Tram.
