New measures have been introduced in Qatar, as of 01. 09. 2024, it became known that citizens will not be allowed to leave the territory of the Persian Gulf state if they have unpaid fines for traffic violations. This is stipulated by the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the General Directorate of Traffic, and foresaying that all fines need to be paid by Metrash2, the Ministry of Interior website, traffic sections or the unified service centers prior to departure.
Further, there shall be a 50% reduction on traffic fines provided that the violation was recorded in the last three years from June 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024. From the 22 May 2024, all motor vehicle will be required to observe the regulation by acquiring a vehicle exit permit to be allowed to exit Qatar. There are some circumstances when this does not apply; this includes vehicles heading for GCC countries and goods transport vehicles for that matter, where there are no records of any traffic violations.
Other road traffic measures that will take effect starting May 22, 2024, are restrictions concerning the bus, Taxi, and the limousine forbidden from using the left lane in multi-lane roads, delivery motorcycles required to use the right lane. Failure to so will lead to legal consequences. These addresses are meant to address issues relating to traffic offenses and the efficiency of handling traffic tickets in Qatar.
