The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has extended the ABET accreditation for seven undergraduate programmes offered by the College of Engineering (CEN) up to the date 30 th September 2030 marking the CEN programs as among the best internationally in terms of quality and excellence. These are chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, Industrial engineering, Mechanical engineering and computer science all of which are accredited.

ABET bench-marked as a non-profit organization for accreditation of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology is emerging as a symbol of quality education in engineering across the world. The renewal shows commitment and desire of the university to keep bettering its standards and offering quality education to the deserving candidature.

Dr. Fadi Aloul the dean of the CEN had pride word to say on the achievement, He said final report of the ABET showed that no program has showed any deficiencies, weaknesses or concern in the entire accreditation process. ”This accreditation is in line with our goal, of producing a competent student that is fit for the job market, future changes and entrepreneurial world with an ability to positively impact their society within and outside their region,” said Dr. Aloul.

This renewed accreditation is in parallel to the maintaining of a high ranking of AUS’s engineering programs in QS World University Rankings 2024. For instance, the civil and structural engineering study program of the university is ranked 1 st in UAE as well as in the top 200 of the rankings. Chemical engineering, computer science, and information systems, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical, aerospace, and manufacturing engineering are among the programs which are ranked in the top ten for UAE and the top 450 in the world.

Such success also places AUS on the map as one of the premier institutions for engineering education in the Middle East and beyond.
