UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE)

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has declared the end of the annual Midday Break campaign that started from June 15 and will last until September 15, 2024. Under this programme designed to protect the workers from the ill effects of scorching heat, workers were not allowed to work outdoor from 12:30 P. M. to 3:00 P. M.

In enhancing compliance of the initiative, the company has achieved a 99. 9% compliance to the Oman occupational health and safety standards thus highlighting the overall commitment towards the UAE as a whole. While 134128 inspections were carried out in the period, only 51 were found to be a violation. The Midday Break also established 6000 rest stations all over the place, which includes delivery workers and other laborers a shaded area and cooling facilities.

Mohsin Al Nassi of MoHRE taking his position as Assistant Undersecretary in charge of Inspection Affairs noted that the private sector’s focus on collaboration with different players has a great impact on the optimization of worker-safe solutions. He spoke of several measures such as the cooling stations, water supply and first aid facilities provided for workers by companies and the government to tackle heat stress and its dangers.

This is an initiative that remains fundamental to the UAE labour legislation for the past two decades and equally important a cornerstone in enhancing the worker’s wellbeing and a competitive and productive labour market.
