Dubai, February 8, 2026 — Ukrainian artist, watercolorist, architect, and interior designer Marina Futymska opened her personal solo exhibition Light Within Paper in Dubai. The show is part of the large-scale cultural project "Month of Ukraine in the United Arab Emirates" and marks a significant moment for Ukrainian creative presence in the Gulf.
The Exhibition: 81 Works Spanning Art and Architecture
The exhibition features 81 watercolor works of various formats and 2 graphic pieces drawn in pencil, including a self-portrait by the artist and a portrait of Taras Shevchenko. The show presents diverse genres and techniques, with a particular focus on botanical painting and the renowned wet-on-wet watercolor method — a demanding technique that requires precise timing and deep familiarity with the medium.
About Marina Futymska
Marina Futymska combines a profound artistic vision with a professional architectural approach. She holds a Master's degree in Architecture and Fine Arts from Kyiv NAOMA and successfully balances her creative practice with work in architecture and interior design. She is a member of the International Watercolor Society (IWS), a member of the UAE Fine Art Society, and holds a UAE Golden Visa in the Culture category. She is also associated with the international watercolor initiative Fabriano in Acquarello (Italy).
Her work bridges disciplines — the precision of an architect informs the structure of her compositions, while her artistic sensibility gives her interiors a distinctive character.
Diplomatic and Cultural Community at the Opening
The opening was attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UAE, Oleksandr Balanutsa, and the Consul of Ukraine in Dubai, Oleksiy Lyashenko, alongside representatives of the local cultural and creative community, artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts.
"Our Ukraine" Watercolor Masterclass
During the event, a group watercolor masterclass titled "Our Ukraine" was held, where Futymska introduced participants to the wet-on-wet technique, demonstrated handling of watercolor and paper, and provided practical guidance for creating compositions. Each participant created their own painting using professional watercolor paints from the Ukrainian brand ROSA.
The masterclass is the first of four charity sessions designed for different age groups — from children to adults — each focusing on Ukrainian symbols and traditional imagery.
A Platform for Cultural Exchange
Light Within Paper showcases Marina Futymska's high level of artistic mastery and blends art, architecture, and design, serving as a platform for cultural exchange and international dialogue. The exhibition stands as a testament to the rich tradition of Ukrainian watercolor art finding its voice on the global stage — and specifically in Dubai, a city that has become a hub for the international creative community.
