RTA is therefore opening the area to road networks by providing additional links and exits from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Warqa’a. It is a vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to provide for population growth and additional infrastructures in line with the growth of urbanization in Dubai. The changes will improve the availability of roads in the area thereby increasing the standard of living of the people.
The project involves laying of additional internal roads of eight kilometres for capacity expansion of increased traffic. After completion, the capacity of existing roads is to increase from 2000 to 5000 vehicles per hour the time will reduce by 80 percent from 20 minutes to 3.5 minutes. Moreover, journey distances will be shortened from 5.7km to 1.5 km. The duration of the project is expected to be estimated to be one year.
In His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer Director General of the RTA more than 350 000 residents stand to benefit from the facility. They include new interchange from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Warqa’a 1 Street enhancement and roundabouts upgrade to signal interconnects. These improvements will add road capacity by 30pc.
Other running projects are construction of internal roads in Al Warqa’a 3 and 4 and a cycling track of 16 km for cycling instead of car use. Past improvements have also already upgraded the road connections in proximity to the School of Scientific Research and Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment.
Moreover, the RTA has recently invested in major improvements in Al Qusais Industrial Areas; road capacity was increased by 200%; more than 60,000 residents got better accessibility. These project compiled and proved RTA readiness to improve the infrastructures of Dubai city.
