Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has won Esri's 2024 Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award for its Entity GIS Platform — a global recognition that places the authority among the world's leading organisations in geographic information systems technology.
RTA Recognised as GIS Pioneer
Esri selected the RTA for the prestigious SAG Award, honouring the authority's position as a pioneer in applying GIS technology to the management, operation, and delivery of transport services. The award was announced as part of the 2024 Esri User Conference and reflects RTA's sustained investment in data-driven infrastructure across Dubai.
The recognition also affirms RTA's role as a strategic technology partner aligned with the Dubai Government's broader plans for building a smarter, more sustainable city.
What the Enterprise GIS Platform Does
Hessa Al Suwaidi, Director of Information Technology at the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector of the RTA, explained that the platform is built on Esri's solutions and engineered to the highest industry standards.
"The platform adheres to best practices to ensure business continuity, rapid disaster recovery, flexibility, and the automation of operational tasks, while achieving the highest standards of information security," Al Suwaidi said.
The Enterprise GIS Platform improves operational efficiency, strengthens decision-making, and enhances the quality of services delivered to the public — all while maintaining rigorous data security protocols.
Supporting Dubai's Smart City Vision
The SAG Award underscores RTA's readiness to serve as a technological foundation as Dubai pursues its vision of becoming a leading smart and sustainable city. By integrating GIS capabilities into day-to-day transport operations, the authority is helping to shape the digital infrastructure that underpins the emirate's future.
The award adds to a growing list of international accolades recognising Dubai's public sector for innovation and excellence in technology adoption.
