New Travel Without Borders at Dubai Airport will replace standard control with smart gates and AI and eliminate passport control stations. Under this system, passengers will not be required to disembark to allow checks on their documents while in the airport. Instead, the airport will switch on the artificial intelligence-powered facial recognition cameras that will follow passengers through their journey from entry into the airport until they are aboard the flight.
Speaking to this writer, Khaled bin Madia Al Falasi, Deputy Assistant Director for Smart Services at Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs said this new system is set to be rolled out across both Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central. At first, the smooth First-to-last experience will be available for first and business class passengers only with future plans to open it for all travellers.
The intelligent system incorporated in the network of the innovative travel will employ the biometric data of travelers thus doing away with immigration desks when leaving or entering the country. “There will be no more gates and passport corridors,” Al Falasi said adding that the system itself has the purpose of making the border control unnoticed to passengers.
With the first, a face mask will be compulsory while first-time visitors will have to register through an app before visiting Dubai. Once registered they may be able to use the system in subsequent journeys hence making the trip easier and efficient. This innovative plan is expected to advance the geographical location of Dubai among the world’s leading Smart Technology City and Smart Travel destinations.
