Two of the most prominent roads of Dubai, namely Sheikh Zayed Road, will be very closed to traffic Faster for two weekends of November for the exciting Dubai Fitness Challenge events. The first closure is planned for Sunday 10 November coinciding with the event ‘Dubai Ride’ cycling event officially initiated for recreational cyclists of all abilities. The second closure is planned for November 24 in connection with the Dubai Run in which both professional and amateur athletes will take to the street.
The closures will primarily affect early morning traffic, with the Dubai Ride requiring all cyclists to complete their rides by 8:15 AM. As a result, it is anticipated that Sheikh Zayed Road will be opened again soon after that time. In contrast, participants in the Dubai Run will see a slightly longer closure, as the last runners for the 5km and 10km routes will start at 8 AM and 7:30 AM, respectively.
Public transport will still be in existence, the Dubai metro is still in existence to provide an option for those that will require to get to the area during such times that the areas are closed.
These events offer the chance to run or cycle on the Sheikh Zayed Road: the Dubai Run includes 5 km course starting near the Museum of the Future passing the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Opera and ending at the Dubai Mall. The extended 10km course also begins close to Museum of the future, cross Dubai Canal Bridge then U turn back through Sheikh Zayed Road and finish near DIFC Gate.
During the Dubai Ride, people can select between a 4 kilometer family course through Downtown Dubai or a 12 kilometer uphill course by Sheikh Zayed Road. The sweetener is that registration to both events is open, meaning the public can celebrate both the event and the fitness activities.
