  • 1The RTA is creating new direct access and exit points from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Al Warqa'a, covering 8 km of upgraded internal roads.
  • 2Road capacity will rise from 2,000 to 5,000 vehicles per hour, with travel times cut 80% — from 20 minutes to 3.5 minutes.
  • 3Over 350,000 Al Warqa'a residents will benefit; the project is due to complete within one year.
  • 4Works include a new interchange, Al Warqa'a 1 Street upgrades, roundabout-to-signal conversions, and a 16 km cycling track.
  • 5Internal roads in Al Warqa'a 3 and 4 are also under construction as part of the same programme.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is building new direct access and exit points from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road into the Al Warqa'a communities — an infrastructure push aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to accommodate Dubai's population and urban growth.

What the Al Warqa'a Road Project Includes

The project covers eight kilometres of new and upgraded internal roads designed to significantly expand traffic capacity. Key elements include:

- A new interchange connecting Al Warqa'a directly to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road - Upgrades to Al Warqa'a 1 Street in both directions - Conversion of existing roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections with advanced specifications

Together, these works will add 30 per cent more road capacity along Al Warqa'a 1 Street and lift network throughput from 2,000 to 5,000 vehicles per hour.

Travel Time Cut by 80 Per Cent

Once complete, journey times through the corridor will fall from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes — an 80 per cent reduction. Travel distances will shorten from 5.7 km to 1.5 km. The project is expected to be finished within one year.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, stated that more than 350,000 residents stand to benefit from the improved connectivity.

Cycling Track and Al Warqa'a 3 & 4 Roads

Alongside the main works, the RTA is also constructing internal roads in Al Warqa'a 3 and 4 sub-communities and a 16-kilometre cycling track to promote sustainable, alternative transportation.

Earlier completed phases delivered road improvements near the School of Scientific Research and the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment.

Part of Dubai's Wider Infrastructure Drive

The Al Warqa'a scheme is part of a broader RTA programme across Dubai. A comparable project in Al Qusais Industrial Areas increased road capacity by 200 per cent, improving access for more than 60,000 residents — demonstrating the authority's continued commitment to future-proofing Dubai's road network.
