Etihad Rail launched an electric high-speed train that travels between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just half an hour. Emirates officials previewed their 350km/h train to press representatives during an event in Abu Dhabi. Alongside the ultra-modern transport system a standard passenger train network will operate connecting all the emirates and heading towards Oman in upcoming years.
The train system serves six main stations starting with Dubai at Al Jaddaf and Al Maktoum International Airport and ending with Abu Dhabi at Zayed International Airport. While all technical setups are completed Etihad Rail has not specified when the service will start operating.
Mohammed Al Shehhi from Etihad Rail predicts that a high-speed rail system would bring AED 145 billion economic benefits across 50 years to the UAE. The project demonstrates the UAE’s strong support for eco-friendly travel and shows how it improves transportation connections throughout the region.
One train line will operate at 200km/h speed while carrying 400 passengers. The system will link between all four capital states including Abu Dhabi and Dubai with plans to include other emirates later. This service will operate on shared tracks with today’s cargo trains while preparing for GCC Railway integration.
Regular train services will provide new stops at Mezeira’a and the Liwa Desert to serve travelers visiting these locations while connecting with Sharjah. The United Arab Emirates continues its traveler-focused evolution by launching two public transport modes that provide fast and environmentally friendly travel choices.
The announcement helps develop UAE infrastructure while implementing sustainable practices and advancing the country towards its economic and regional plans.
