Kris Marszalek, co-founder and chief executive of Crypto.com, has acquired the AI.com domain for approximately $70 million paid entirely in cryptocurrency — the largest publicly disclosed domain name sale to date. The purchase positions him as a new player in the fast-expanding consumer artificial intelligence market, with a high-profile debut planned for a Super Bowl commercial.
Record-Breaking AI.com Domain Sale
The $70 million AI.com domain sale was confirmed by domain broker Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.com, who declined to disclose the seller's identity. The deal was settled fully in digital assets, underscoring cryptocurrency's growing role in high-value transactions.
Marszalek completed the purchase in April and has since assembled a dedicated team to build the platform. He stated: "I purchased ai.com in April. Since that time, we created a team that has been steadily building."
He described the acquisition as a long-term investment, citing his belief that artificial intelligence will be one of the most transformative technological shifts over the next 10 to 20 years. Marszalek revealed he has already received "an absolutely insane amount of money" in offers to sell the domain, but intends to retain it to build a business and brand around the name, avoiding commoditization in an increasingly crowded AI landscape.
Super Bowl Reveal for Consumer AI Platform
The AI.com platform is designed as a personal AI agent helping users send messages, access applications, and trade stocks. Marszalek said the service will focus on simplicity and accessibility, particularly for non-technical users — comparable to recently popular AI agents from Silicon Valley but with a streamlined setup aimed at mainstream consumers.
He chose a Super Bowl commercial to unveil the platform, maximising exposure for what he views as a category-defining launch.
Expanding Beyond Crypto.com
Marszalek launched Crypto.com in 2016. The company generates around $1.5 billion in annual revenue and is known for aggressive marketing, including a $700 million naming-rights deal for a major sports arena in Los Angeles and partnerships with Trump Media & Technology Group.
The AI.com project marks a significant expansion beyond Crypto.com's core digital asset business, signalling Marszalek's ambition to establish a consumer-facing presence in artificial intelligence as the sector continues to accelerate.
