Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has unveiled an ambitious plan to become the world's first AI-native utility — one where artificial intelligence is required to operate in every sector of the organization. CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer made the announcement during GenAI Week, the four-day event hosted at DEWA's own headquarters.
DEWA Puts AI at the Core of Its Strategy
GenAI Week brought together DEWA specialists and representatives from leading technology firms including Microsoft, IBM, ServiceNow, and DataRobot. Workshops, panel discussions, and interactive lectures covered deep learning, neural networks, and AI automation — cementing DEWA's commitment to a full-scale digital transformation.
Al Tayer outlined three pillars of DEWA's AI roadmap:
- Operational efficiency — AI automation to optimize decision-making and streamline administrative workflows - Customer experience — AI-driven tools to improve service delivery and stakeholder engagement - Workforce development — strategic international partnerships to train staff in advanced AI technologies
Rammas at Work: AI Already Running DEWA's Operations
DEWA has already deployed Rammas at Work, its AI-powered operational platform, across multiple service divisions:
- Power and Water Generation - Distribution and Transmission - Human Resources and Legal Affairs - Business Development and Compliance
Beyond Rammas, DEWA has integrated AI enhancements into its Khadamatech e-services portal, IT support systems, and cybersecurity policies.
Aligned with the UAE National Strategy for AI 2031
Al Tayer stated that DEWA's AI-native utility roadmap directly supports Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's strategic goal of positioning the UAE as a global AI leader. By embedding AI at the operational, service, and governance levels, DEWA aims to drive sustainable growth and technological excellence across the energy and water sectors — fulfilling the targets of the UAE National Strategy for AI 2031.
