Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) crossed the billion-dollar mark in digital revenue for 2023, reporting AED 3.705 billion — a 16.8% jump from 2022. The milestone reflects a sweeping push into AI-powered services, smarter mobile apps, and self-service infrastructure across the emirate.
Dubai RTA Digital Revenue Reaches AED 3.705 Billion
The RTA recorded 821 million digital transactions in 2023, a 1% rise over 2022. Transactions through smart apps reached 15.299 million — up 29% year-on-year — while registered users on RTA's digital service channels hit 1.404 million, a 20% increase. Customer happiness scores across all RTA applications exceeded 95%, reflecting strong user satisfaction with the authority's digital offerings.
AI as the Core Engine of Growth
Artificial intelligence sits at the heart of RTA's digital transformation strategy. The authority upgraded its Mahboob Chatbot with ChatGPT integration, enabling more natural conversations, stronger data protection, and automated task handling. The revamped RTA Dubai app now includes AI-powered parking predictions covering more than 190,000 locations across the city, helping drivers locate available spaces before they arrive.
NFC-based nol card top-ups were also introduced, allowing commuters to recharge their transit cards instantly from a mobile phone — no station visit or card tap required. The app additionally supports trip planning and route suggestions, consolidating multiple services in a single interface.
Smart Kiosks Drive AED 309 Million in Revenue
Thirty new smart kiosks were deployed across 21 customer happiness centres and service provider locations in 2023, generating over AED 309 million — a 12% increase on the prior year. The kiosks accelerate service delivery and reduce queue times, contributing directly to the authority's high satisfaction ratings.
S'hail App and Mobile Service Expansion
RTA's S'hail multimodal journey-planning app received a significant update, adding bicycle and e-scooter lane displays alongside taxi stand activation features. The Dubai Drive app expanded its scope to enable plate-transfer services through mobile service centres, reducing the need for in-person visits to RTA offices.
Across its 360 Services initiative, the authority activated 63 services in the first phase, aligning digital delivery with Dubai's broader smart-city agenda and the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Aligned with Dubai's Smart-City Vision
RTA's digital transformation roadmap is designed to optimise urban mobility operations while raising the quality of daily life for residents and visitors. The integration of AI into core transport services — from parking predictions to chatbot support — positions Dubai as a global benchmark for intelligent public transport ecosystems.
