OpenAI has announced the OpenAI Jobs Platform, an AI-powered hiring marketplace set to launch by mid-2026 — placing the ChatGPT maker in direct competition with LinkedIn for dominance in professional recruitment.
What Is the OpenAI Jobs Platform?
The OpenAI Jobs Platform is designed to connect businesses with talent using AI-driven matching, moving beyond traditional résumés and job titles to focus on demonstrated skills and AI fluency. Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of Applications, revealed the initiative in a blog post, writing that AI will create "perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer."
The platform will include a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments, giving them direct access to AI-powered recruitment tools that were previously available only to large enterprises.
OpenAI vs. LinkedIn: A Conflict of Interests
The AI hiring platform puts OpenAI in a striking competitive position. LinkedIn was co-founded by Reid Hoffman, one of OpenAI's earliest investors. The professional network is now owned by Microsoft — OpenAI's largest financial backer — and has already integrated AI recruitment tools of its own.
CEO Sam Altman confirmed that Simo will oversee multiple new consumer applications at OpenAI, including the hiring platform, a potential AI-powered browser, and a social media app, signalling the company's broader ambitions beyond ChatGPT.
OpenAI Academy: AI Certifications for 10 Million Americans
Alongside the jobs marketplace, OpenAI plans to offer AI fluency certifications through OpenAI Academy. A pilot programme is expected in late 2025, with an ambitious goal of certifying 10 million Americans by 2030. The company has partnered with Walmart, one of the world's largest private employers, to test the certification programme.
The initiative is part of OpenAI's broader collaboration with the White House to expand AI literacy across the United States. Altman and other technology leaders are scheduled to meet President Donald Trump to discuss AI adoption strategies.
Addressing the Disruption Question
While Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that AI could replace up to half of all entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030, Simo acknowledged the risk directly. "We can't stop disruption," she said, "but we can equip workers with the tools they need to succeed."
That framing positions the OpenAI Jobs Platform not just as a LinkedIn rival, but as OpenAI's answer to the workforce anxiety its own technology has created — a platform meant to help workers adapt to the very disruption the company is driving.
