Oscar-winning actress and producer Reese Witherspoon has voiced strong support for artificial intelligence in Hollywood, arguing that women must take an active role in shaping how the technology transforms the entertainment industry.
Witherspoon Champions AI as the Future of Filmmaking
Speaking to Glamour magazine while promoting the fourth season of her Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, Witherspoon explained why she embraces AI rather than resists it.
"I'm always looking forward to how media is evolving and how I can help bring women along in those emerging industries. And now we're doing it with AI," she said.
The Sweet Home Alabama star was direct about the inevitability of the shift: "Critics can lament it all they want, but the change is here." At the same time, she stressed that AI will never replace the human qualities that define great art. Creativity, craftsmanship, and self-expression, she argued, will remain irreplaceable.
The AI Tools Witherspoon Uses Every Day
Beyond her work as a producer, the 49-year-old said she relies on AI tools in her personal life. She named Perplexity and Vetted AI as platforms she uses for product research and smart shopping — including finding the best blender by comparing multiple options at once.
She also highlighted Simple AI, a virtual assistant that helps users schedule tasks like medical appointments. "It's an incredible tool to save time," Witherspoon said.
A Call to Women in the Industry
Witherspoon's message to female professionals in Hollywood — and across other industries — is straightforward: learn the technology, don't wait for it to come to you.
By openly adopting AI tools and speaking about their benefits, she hopes to inspire more women to explore how AI can enhance creativity, improve efficiency, and open new opportunities in both filmmaking and everyday life.
The rise of AI in Hollywood has sharply divided the industry. Directors like James Cameron have pointed to potential cost-cutting benefits, while others such as Guillermo del Toro have publicly refused to use it. Witherspoon's stance puts her firmly in the pro-adaptation camp — with a specific focus on ensuring women have a seat at the table as the technology evolves.
