The Red Sea International Film Festival 2026 has officially locked its dates, and this one deserves an instant calendar save. The sixth edition runs from 3 to 12 December 2026 at the Red Sea Film Festival headquarters in Al-Balad, Jeddah — ten packed days in one of Saudi Arabia's most iconic districts for cinema fans, filmmakers, industry names, and culture lovers alike.
After the enormous response earned by earlier editions, the return already carries serious excitement. The festival has built a reputation for ambitious programming, global titles, regional stories, and fresh Saudi talent all under one banner — and December 2026 is shaping up to continue that tradition.
Al-Balad Gets the Spotlight Again
Al-Balad, Jeddah will host the festival once more, giving the sixth edition a historic backdrop that adds extra weight to the announcement. The event takes place at the Red Sea Film Festival headquarters, turning this UNESCO-recognized district into the center of one of the region's biggest cinema celebrations from 3 to 12 December 2026.
That date window matters. It gives film fans and industry professionals ample time to plan ahead of year-end travel, holiday schedules, and social calendars that fill up fast by December. Anyone passionate about film, celebrity culture, major premieres, and cultural programming now has a key December date officially confirmed.
A Festival Program Built for Film Lovers
The festival has confirmed the core categories that define its identity. Red Sea: Competition celebrates boundary-pushing works of art. Red Sea: Shorts Competition brings compelling short films under 60 minutes to the forefront. New Saudi/New Cinema adds another major pillar by giving emerging local talent a curated platform built for fresh perspectives and creative ingenuity.
That combination gives the festival broad appeal — welcoming viewers hungry for daring international cinema, shorter formats, and exciting Saudi voices all in one place.
The full 2026 film lineup is yet to be released, but the programming history says plenty. Past editions featured drama, documentary, and animation from across the globe, including A Sad and Beautiful World, All That's Left of You, Allah Is Not Obliged, Barni, and Black Rabbit, White Rabbit. Regional and international collaborations also filled the slate: Hijra, Irkalla: Gilgamesh's Dream, Lost Land, Nighttime Sounds, Roqia, Sink, The Stories, The World of Love, Truck Mama, Two Seasons, Two Strangers, Yunan, A Matter of Life and Death, Palestine 36, The Fakenapping, Unidentified, Wedding Rehearsal, and Giant.
Big-Screen Prestige That Keeps Growing
The International Spectacular section in past years added further star power via Couture, Desert Warrior, Farruquito – A Flamenco Dynasty, Scarlet, and The Wizard of the Kremlin. Special Screenings have included The Voice of Hind Rajab and Sirat, giving the festival another major layer of cultural prestige.
Earlier editions delivered 122 films from 85 countries under the theme A New Home of Film, along with the world premiere of The Tale of Daye's Family and titles including To A Land Unknown, Superboys of Malegaon, Saify, and Moon. Short films, talks, and workshops have also consistently formed part of the agenda, giving audiences direct access to filmmaking insight and industry conversation.
Red carpets have welcomed names including Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Shah Rukh Khan, Halle Berry, and Viola Davis. Guest names for 2026 are still to be announced — and that anticipation only adds to a festival that already has plenty going for it.
