The Match & FIDE’s centenary celebration will be held on Thursday 21st of August, 2024 at the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. Sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Chess Club and Mind Games and supported officially by the Abu Dhabi Sports Club, the torch relay will be one of the most memorable events in the history of the global chess .
The location that has been chosen for the holding of these ceremonies is Abu Dhabi which testifies to its increasing significance in the sphere of sport. The city is already in the process of its enhanced role in hosting major events; in recent years it was selected to host the 2028 World Chess Olympiad.
This will be the culmination of the FIDE100 torch relay and the event gets the flames to Budapest, Hungary for the 45th Chess Olympiad for the period between September 10 and September 23, 2024.
It encompasses a photo gallery of the historical background of the game of chess and the people involved in the sporting activity. Also two high-stakes simultaneous matches will be conducted; one against the Worlds Youth Champion and the African and Arab Champion Grandmaster Ahmed Al Adli and the other against the QCF President – Grandmaster Ahmed Al Mudhahka. Each of the grandmasters will play against 15 people at once, which will hold an interesting show of agility.
