Qatar Welcomes Efforts Made to Ensure Accountability for Those Responsible for Violations Against Syrian People

The State of Qatar has also endorsed all initiatives in the fight against impunity and in the push to prosecute culprits of human rights abuses against the Syrian people. This stand was made by Abdullah Al Suwaidi First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry On the Syrian Arab Republic held on HRC 56TH session Geneva.

While, Al Suwaidi stressed on such factors about severe crimes, human rights violations, the deterioration of humanitarian, social and economic situations for the Syrians after the year 2011 when the conflict started would remain a same scenario if the conflict has no final political solution. He stressed the need to show more political will and to put more efforts and pressure for a political settlement consistent with the Geneva Declaration and UN Security Council Resolution 2254. This resolution seeks to response to the rightful claimed Basic rights of the Syrians who have suffered painful ordeals and losses together with ensuring the sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.

Thereby, Al Suwaidi drew attention on the need to resume the efforts within the Constitutional Committee and to apply the necessary pressure on the Syrian regime to respond constructively. He also focused on the imperativeness of trying to find the solution to the problems with the missing persons, detainees and the persons deprived of liberty or taken forcibly disappeared, as it is essential for attaining the sustainable political solution and achieving justice and equality for all the victims of such violations.

The First Secretary at the MOFA said thank you to the Members of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic for their presentation of the oral update on the human situation in Syria and for undertaking to investigate and analyze the infringements perpetrated against the Syrian people.
