Dubai Ranks First in Arab World, Fifth Globally in International Shipping Index

Dubai is further strengthening its position as a global maritime hub which resulted to its 5th place in the 2024 International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCD). This is the fifth year in a row that Dubai remained the only Arab city in the list of the top 20 and companies it with the greatest shipping nations such as Singapore, London, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The report published cooperation of Baltic Exchange with Xinhua News Agency accentuates the streamline advancement of Dubai in the maritime segment including the container fee transparency implemented with Instruction No 1 for 2023 by the Dubai Maritime Authority. This regulation requires service providers to provide the container fees through the Dubai Trade portal, and enhances service organization and openness.

Dubai’s success in 2023 was similarly boosted during the hosting of COP28 where seven areas of international partnerships and decarbonisation were achieved, all the while, bolstering its maritime strength.

Sultan bin Sulayem, the Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, afforded special appreciation to Dubai for what in regard to its role in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. He spoke of the emirate’s consistent focus on innovation, sustainability and infrastructure to make sure that Dubai continues to be a major player in the global shipping industry.

Dubai Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority, Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum confirmed that the sector holds significant bearing for the emirate’s economy and its commitment towards environmental conservation as well as shedding emphasis on developing integrated transport structure through the combination of the three major modes of transport: air, land, and sea.

This annual index that measures the competitive capacity and maritime businesses development gives a long-term vision of the desire to sustain the maritime supremacy for Dubai.
