Dubai Run 2024 has now entered the Guinness World Records as the largest free community event ever held, with a staggering 280,000 participants turning Sheikh Zayed Road into the world's biggest running track on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The milestone caps what has become one of Dubai's most anticipated annual events — and a powerful symbol of the emirate's commitment to health and community.
A Record-Breaking Sixth Edition
The Dubai Run 2024 Guinness World Record achievement marks the sixth edition of the event, which launched in 2017 as the flagship finale of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. The challenge, introduced to make Dubai residents more active throughout the year, draws tens of thousands of participants to embrace fitness in one of the most spectacular settings on earth.
Every year the participant count has climbed. In 2023, around 226,000 runners took part — meaning 2024's turnout represented a remarkable 23% increase year on year, cementing Dubai's reputation as a global hub for wellness and mass participation sport.
Two Routes Along Sheikh Zayed Road
Traffic authorities closed sections of Sheikh Zayed Road to give runners free rein over one of the UAE's most iconic thoroughfares. Participants chose between two routes:
- 5 km route — starting near the Museum of the Future and winding past some of Dubai's most celebrated landmarks before finishing at the Time Out Market. - 10 km route — beginning at the same point, crossing the Dubai Canal Bridge along Sheikh Zayed Road, and concluding near the DIFC Gate.
Both routes offered uninterrupted views of the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Opera, and the Museum of the Future — a dramatic backdrop that has become synonymous with the Dubai Run experience.
Dubai Fitness Challenge: Building an Active City
The Dubai Run serves as the grand finale of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, an annual initiative designed to inspire residents and visitors to embrace 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 days each November. The challenge reflects Dubai's long-term ambition to become the world's most active city.
Dubai's efforts to promote fitness and wellness to its people — and to the world — were once again on full display in 2024. The Guinness World Record recognition underscores how the emirate has transformed a community fun run into a global benchmark for free, inclusive mass-participation events.
