The sixth edition of the Emirates Arabian Horse Global Cup (EAHGC) will be held in El Alamein, on Egypt's northern Mediterranean coast, from June 27 to June 29, 2024. The event marks the first time in the championship's history that a show has been staged on African soil — a milestone recognised as a testament to the growing global reach of UAE-led equestrian sport.
The championship is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and follows the close oversight of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Vice Chairman of the Emirates Arabian Horse Society (EAHS).
Why El Alamein?
El Alamein sits on Egypt's northern coast, bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. Long celebrated for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, the city draws visitors from across the region and beyond. Its blend of natural beauty and well-established hospitality infrastructure makes it an ideal backdrop for an international equestrian showcase of this scale.
Egypt's Arabian Horse Heritage
Egypt holds a distinguished position in the world of purebred Arabian horses. The El Zahraa Stud — one of the oldest and most respected Arabian horse establishments anywhere — occupies an area of 43,000 hectares and anchors a breeding ecosystem of some 1,800 private-sector farms that collectively maintain an estimated 25,000 horses.
The Arabian breed itself traces its origins to the Arabian Peninsula before being introduced into Egypt during the Hellenistic era. That centuries-long history makes Egypt a natural and symbolic host for a championship dedicated entirely to the breed.
EAHGC Season Format and Calendar
The EAHGC spans 10 championships across five continents — the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Australia, and the Americas — with cash prizes awarded to the top five finishers at each round. The 2024 season opened in February with the Australian International Arabian Championship and has since taken in major shows in Bahrain, Scottsdale (Arizona), Fontainebleau (France), and Vilhelmsborg (Denmark) before arriving in El Alamein.
Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan noted that Egypt's selection as host is entirely fitting given the country's standing as one of the premier nations for Arabian horse breeding and international horse shows. He added that the championship's continued expansion reflects the vision of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his international commitment to the Arabian horse as a living cultural heritage.
