Spain's La Liga has launched its LaLiga talent discovery programme in the UAE, selecting eight young footballers — four boys and four girls — for an exclusive training experience in Madrid. The initiative is part of the broader LaLiga FC Futures programme, dedicated to scouting and developing emerging football talent around the world.
How the UAE Selection Works
The announcement was made at a press conference in Dubai, where officials revealed that 200 players from UAE academies had gone through trials at the High Performance Centre in Dubai Sports City. From that pool, eight standout athletes were chosen to travel to Spain for an intensive development stint.
The selected players will undergo high-level coaching in Madrid — both technical and mental — and will have the opportunity to visit some of the Spanish capital's top sporting clubs, immersing themselves in Spain's football culture firsthand.
What LaLiga Is Looking for in Young Players
According to Rubén Cano Sierra, Technical Manager for LaLiga sports projects, the programme targets players who combine raw technical ability with the right mindset and personal values. The goal is to build well-rounded footballers who are ready to compete at the highest levels.
Raúl Ostalé, Head of Marketing and Content for LaLiga MENA, highlighted the UAE as a natural fit for the programme due to the region's advanced academy infrastructure and its rapidly growing football scene. Daniels Pitrows, CEO of the High Performance Centre, noted that events like this reflect the UAE's ambition to become a genuine regional hub for elite youth football development.
UAE Joins a Global Talent Pipeline
The UAE leg follows successful rounds of the LaLiga FC Futures programme in the United States and South Africa. Future editions are planned for Vietnam and Guatemala, underlining the initiative's reach across emerging football markets.
The programme reflects a wider trend of top European leagues investing in grassroots talent identification outside their home territories — recognising that the next generation of elite players may come from anywhere in the world.
