Space tourism is no longer a distant dream for Abu Dhabi residents. Spanish pioneer EOS-X SPACE — Europe's first space tourism company — is planning to launch stratosphere balloon flights from Yas Island as early as Q3 2025, giving UAE residents an extraordinary opportunity to reach the edge of space.
How EOS-X SPACE's Stratosphere Flights Work
EOS-X SPACE uses an eco-friendly helium balloon to lift a pressurised capsule to the edge of the stratosphere at an altitude of 40,000 metres — roughly four times the cruising altitude of a commercial jet. The capsule accommodates up to eight people, including a pilot, and the entire journey lasts approximately five hours.
During the flight, passengers can witness Earth's curvature, the planet's iconic blue halo, and the vast darkness of space beyond — views previously reserved for astronauts and a handful of billionaire rocket tourists.
Yas Island to Become the World's Largest Space Tourism Hub
Abu Dhabi is not just a launch site for EOS-X SPACE — it is the company's most ambitious global facility. The Yas Island complex will encompass a cutting-edge spaceport, operational hubs, visitor immersion zones, and the world's largest space tourism hotel complex. The facility is designed to blend futuristic wellness offerings tailored for post-flight recovery with luxury hospitality on the ground.
The investment in the Abu Dhabi and Seville facilities combined exceeds $230 million in engineering and infrastructure — a clear signal of how seriously EOS-X SPACE is betting on the UAE.
More Than a Balloon Ride: A Week-Long Luxury Journey
A seat on an EOS-X SPACE near-space flight is not simply a ticket to the stratosphere. Passengers are enrolled in a one-week programme that includes cultural experiences, fine dining, wellness therapies, and regenerative medicine treatments before and after the flight. It is, in the company's own framing, as wholesome a journey as it gets.
Price and Who It Is For
This ultra-luxury experience carries a price tag of AED 600,000 to AED 800,000 per person (approximately €150,000–€200,000), depending on the package selected. The company projects combined revenues from its Abu Dhabi and Seville operations to reach $353 million in 2025 — a figure that underscores the scale of demand the firm anticipates for near-space tourism.
For those whose travel plans feel a little grounded, Abu Dhabi is about to take things to a whole new altitude.
