The 24th edition of the Airport Show in Dubai brought together more than 140 exhibitors from over 20 countries, each presenting innovations designed to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding global aviation market. Spanning everything from AI-powered security to sustainable conveyor systems, the event made clear that the airport of the future is already taking shape on the floor of today's trade shows.
Participation from 50+ qualified buyers representing 70 organizations across 30 countries underlined the event's growing reach — and the urgency of the transformation underway.
AI and Digital Identity at the Forefront
Artificial intelligence, digital identity, and predictive control systems dominated the agenda at Dubai Airport Show 2025. Airport operators are under pressure to manage rising passenger volumes while tightening security and cutting energy costs — and the technology on display offered answers on all three fronts.
IDEMIA showcased its multimodal biometric identity platform, combining instant facial and iris recognition with AI-powered baggage handling. "We aim to help airports evolve into smarter, smoother environments," said Gaurav Gupta, SVP Global Head of Sales at IDEMIA. By processing both face and iris simultaneously, the system speeds up passenger flow at checkpoints and boarding gates while strengthening identity verification.
Counter-Drone Security Takes Centre Stage
With unauthorized drones posing an escalating threat to aviation, DroneShield presented its AI-driven counter-drone solutions at the show — including SensorFusion AI and radio-frequency detection systems designed specifically for airport environments. "DroneShield is committed to protecting airports from the growing threat posed by unauthorised and hostile drones," said Tim Butcher, Sales Director.
The SensorFusion AI platform fuses data from multiple sensor types to detect and classify drone threats in real time, giving airport security teams the situational awareness needed to respond before an incident develops.
Advanced Screening from Smiths Detection
Smiths Detection demonstrated its Hi-Scan 6040 CTiX Model-S computed tomography (CT) scanners — a system designed to raise checkpoint throughput without compromising security standards. CT-based screening produces 3D images of luggage contents, enabling automated threat detection and reducing the need for manual bag searches that slow passenger flow.
The technology is well-timed: Dubai International Airport retained its position as the world's busiest international hub for the 11th consecutive year, putting significant pressure on terminal screening capacity.
Control Rooms and Visual Management
Barco brought its CTRL unified management platform to the show, paired with TruePix visual display technology for airport control rooms. The combination gives operations teams a single real-time interface for monitoring terminal activity, security feeds, and operational data — improving decision-making speed across the airport campus.
Sustainable Operations: Conveyors and Airfield Lighting
Forbo Movement Systems launched two products targeting the energy efficiency challenge: the Amp Miser conveyor belt, which cuts energy consumption by up to 50%, and the EcoFiber belt manufactured from recycled PET material. Both address the operational cost and carbon footprint pressures that airport operators increasingly face.
Delta Dassault presented its POLARIS Portable Lighting System alongside the VISTA Advanced Airfield Lighting System — solutions suited to both permanent terminals and relocatable aviation facilities, covering everything from construction phases to full operational deployments.
The Bigger Picture
The Airport Show 2025 also featured the 12th Global Airport Leaders Forum (GALF), with 30+ sessions and 70+ expert speakers addressing topics including urban air mobility, cybersecurity, and carbon reduction. The wider context is significant: the MEASA region represents a $1 trillion airport development market, with Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport expansion alone valued at $35 billion.
With partners such as Amana Aviation Fueling and the Western Bainoona Group also present, Dubai Airport Show 2025 reinforced a clear direction: airports are evolving into smarter, more secure, and more sustainable hubs — and the technology to get there is already available.
