In their first-ever interview, Shytoshi Kusama and Kaal Dhairya — the pseudonymous masterminds behind Shiba Inu — stepped out of the shadows to discuss how two strangers became the guiding forces of one of cryptocurrency's most remarkable projects. The meeting took place in an inconspicuous café at 3 AM, after weeks of negotiations with intermediaries and multiple security protocols. Both men appeared with their faces and identities fully concealed — Kusama's real name, appearance, and voice remain closely guarded secrets to this day.
From Uber Driver to Crypto Leader
Kusama's background is anything but conventional. Before entering the crypto space, he worked as an Uber driver in Los Angeles and a part-time food delivery courier in New York. He also spent time in music, photography, and business consultancy, and is fluent in six languages. His entry into crypto began as a hobby before evolving into a full-time commitment, inspired by Ryoshi's original thesis: launch a token as effective as Dogecoin — which was itself created in 2013 as the first widely recognized meme coin.
Kusama was eventually introduced to Kaal Dhairya online. Dhairya, widely regarded as one of the industry's most successful tech prodigies, proved to be the precise technical counterweight Kusama needed. Their collaboration has been central to the management and growth of Shiba Inu.
A 27,000,000 Percent Rise
From January to October 2021, the price of SHIB rose by 27,000,000 percent. What began as a meme coin experiment evolved into the world's largest decentralized community — the ShibArmy. Today, Shiba Inu is the number two most traded cryptocurrency in the market, second only to Bitcoin in 2023.
"We want to become the trillion-dollar decentralized entity of the world," Kusama said during the interview. He noted that meme coins serve a genuine purpose: they lower the barrier to entry and bring new participants into more serious crypto projects. Currently, only about 5% of the global population participates in cryptocurrency, and both Kusama and Dhairya see enormous long-term potential in accelerating the transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.
Decentralization as the Core Philosophy
A major theme of the interview was the self-governing nature of Shiba Inu. Both leaders emphasized that the project's foundation is community ownership — users bring ideas and participate directly in the network's development. This model, they argue, distinguishes Shiba Inu from both conventional corporations and centrally managed crypto projects.
"SHIB is the brand that will lead the world from Web2 to Web3," Kusama said, underscoring the team's long-term ambitions beyond simply being a meme coin.
Handing Control to the ShibArmy
Looking ahead, Kusama and Dhairya outlined plans to transition full governance of Shiba Inu to its community by the end of the year. This move is designed to keep the project true to its decentralized principles — ensuring that no single authority, including the founders themselves, holds central control over its direction.
Despite remaining out of the public spotlight, both leaders have had a profound impact on the crypto world. Kusama's multilingual, cross-disciplinary background and Dhairya's technical expertise have together shaped Shiba Inu into one of the defining projects of the blockchain era — and a blueprint for how a decentralized project can scale without top-down management.
Their shared commitment extends beyond financial returns. Both Kusama and Dhairya speak of building "social value" — creating an economic system in which ordinary participants stand to benefit, and where growth in the community is itself considered a form of investment.
