The UAE has taken a major step forward in space technology with three new Earth observation satellites now fully operational. Space42 confirmed that Foresight-3, Foresight-4 and Foresight-5 have entered service, expanding the country's Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation to five satellites. The upgrade strengthens the UAE space intelligence network and sharpens the nation's ability to collect high-resolution geospatial data across the globe in real time.
Launched in November 2025, the three satellites completed commissioning and testing before entering full operation. Their integration improves revisit rates, expands geographic coverage and ensures continuous data collection regardless of weather conditions or time of day.
How the UAE Space Intelligence Network Works
The upgraded system plays a key role in strengthening surveillance and analytics across regions where most of the global population lives. Operating in mid-inclined Low Earth Orbit, the satellites deliver wider coverage and more frequent imaging.
The project was developed in partnership with Finland-based ICEYE, supporting the UAE's goal of building sovereign space capabilities while drawing on global expertise. Integration and testing were completed at Space42's Abu Dhabi facility, underlining continued investment in domestic aerospace infrastructure.
According to Space42, the expanded constellation boosts national Earth observation capacity and improves competitiveness in the global geospatial intelligence market. It forms part of a wider strategy to position the UAE as a leader in AI-driven space services.
What the New Satellites Can Do
The satellites feed data into Space42's AI-powered platform, GIQ, which converts raw imagery into actionable intelligence within minutes. That speeds up decision-making across disaster response, infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring and security operations.
Each satellite captures imagery at up to 25-centimetre resolution and can operate through clouds and adverse weather. This ensures reliable data collection in critical situations where visibility is limited.
Officials say the AI-driven system can reduce emergency response times by up to 90 per cent, lower maintenance costs by around 30 per cent and improve operational efficiency by up to 25 per cent across key industries.
Why It Matters for the UAE
The announcement comes amid rising global demand for Earth observation services, as governments and businesses increasingly rely on satellite intelligence for risk management, sustainability planning and operational efficiency.
Under the UAE's National Space Strategy 2030, continued investment in space infrastructure and artificial intelligence remains a national priority. The expansion of the Foresight constellation further strengthens the UAE space intelligence network and supports the country's long-term ambition to become a global hub for advanced space-based data services.
