April 2025 brings four concrete changes to daily life in Dubai — a brand-new lifestyle mall, higher parking fees, a rebranded Metro station, and the Eid Al-Fitr break. Whether you commute by Metro, drive to work, or plan to explore a new shopping destination, here is what to expect.
1. Nad Al Sheba Mall Finally Opens
Dubai Holding Asset Management is set to open the 500,000-square-foot Nad Al Sheba Mall in April 2025 — one of the most anticipated retail launches in the city this year.
The complex brings together over 100 carefully curated outlets spanning retail, fitness, healthcare, food and beverage, and entertainment. Key names include Spinneys, Union Coop, Home Bakery, SALT, Go Sport, and the female-only fitness studio Fit N Glam. Fun City and Orange Wheels cover children's entertainment, while a rooftop gym, swimming pool, and padel courts round out the wellness offer.
The mall serves residents of Nad Al Sheba, Meydan, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Majan, and provides over 900 parking spaces with dedicated bays for people of determination.
2. Parkin Raises Premium Parking Rates From April 4
From Friday, April 4, 2025, Dubai's parking operator Parkin introduces variable pricing across the city's paid zones.
Premium spots — those within 500 metres of a Metro station or in high-demand commercial areas — will cost Dhs6 per hour during peak hours (8 am–10 am and 4 pm–8 pm). Standard parking zones remain at Dhs4 per hour. Off-peak rates (10 am–4 pm and 8 pm–10 pm) stay unchanged. The rollout was originally planned for March but was postponed to after Eid Al-Fitr.
Parkin designated premium zones based on three criteria: proximity to public transport, high occupancy during peak periods, and density of commercial activity.
3. Al Khail Metro Station Renamed Al Fardan Exchange
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has granted naming rights to Al Fardan Exchange, officially renaming Al Khail Metro Station on the Red Line. The new name — Al Fardan Exchange Metro Station — took effect on March 18, 2025.
From April through the end of June, commuters will see updated external and indoor signage, digital displays, and public transport app listings roll out across the network. The station first opened as Nakheel in 2010, was renamed Al Khail in 2020, and now takes its third name under the RTA's commercial naming-rights programme.
4. Eid Al-Fitr Long Weekend
Eid Al-Fitr public holidays are confirmed for March 30 to April 1 if Ramadan runs 29 days, or through April 2 if the month completes 30 days — the final date depends on the lunar calendar. Both scenarios give residents at least a three-day break.
Plan travel, errands, and business appointments around the holiday, as government offices, banks, and some retail outlets adjust their hours.
