Dubai is cementing its status as the world's premier tourism destination. According to the Department of Economy and Tourism, the emirate welcomed more than 10 million foreign visitors in the first half of 2024 alone. By the end of July, that figure had climbed to 10.62 million — a notable jump from the 9.83 million recorded over the same seven-month stretch in 2023.
Dubai Tourism 2024 on Course for a New Record
The pace of arrivals signals that Dubai is well on track to surpass its previous full-year record of 15.37 million international visitors set in 2023. The city's combination of world-class dining, iconic attractions, and a packed events calendar continues to draw travellers from every corner of the globe.
Who Is Visiting Dubai?
Western Europe led all source markets, contributing 20 per cent of total visitors. South Asia followed at 17 per cent, while the GCC and Eastern Europe each accounted for 14 per cent. The diversity of these markets underscores Dubai's broad, cross-cultural appeal — no single region dominates the visitor mix.
Hotel Sector Grows to Meet Demand
The hospitality sector kept pace with rising demand. Hotel occupancy edged higher from the 75 per cent recorded in the same period the year before. The total number of available rooms in Dubai reached 151,417 across 825 hotels in 2024, compared with 148,711 rooms in 813 hotels in 2023.
New luxury openings played a key role in expanding capacity. One&Only One Za'abeel, Park Regis by Prince, and The Lana, Dorchester Collection all added premium inventory to a market that was already running at strong occupancy levels.
Landmark Attractions and Events Drive Footfall
Dubai's iconic skyline remains a powerful draw. The Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and Dubai Frame continue to attract millions of visitors annually. On the events front, the UNTOLD music festival and WATERBOMB festival drew large crowds during the first half of the year.
The second half of 2024 brought further reasons to visit. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched a new hop-on hop-off bus service, making it easier for tourists to move between the city's major attractions. Looking ahead, the Emirates Dubai 7s rugby tournament and a performance by Calvin Harris are among the headline events set to sustain Dubai's momentum as a top-tier global destination.
