Dubai Metro Unveils AI Robot to Cut Inspection Time by 75% and Boost Safety

The Dubai Metro has launched a sophisticated AI-enabled robot designed for faster rail inspections and oriented to a higher level of safety. This innovative system, called the Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System (ARIIS), aligns with the wider vision of Dubai as a forerunner in AI, smart mobility and sustainable infrastructure.

The ARIIS has been launched by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in association with Keolis MHI and Future Maintenance Technologies (FMT) and is mapped out to change how the Dubai Metro conducts its maintenance and safety checks.

Using an array of capabilities such as sensors, lasers and 3D cameras, the robot can accomplish real-time inspections of tracks and infrastructure systems without interrupting daily metro operations. Using this system has reduced inspection time by 75% thus reducing the workload from 2400 man-hours to 700 man-hours.

Benefits of ARIIS:

Faster inspections: Saves time on manual inspections of track infrastructure systems of up to 70% of the inspection. Now that everybody has a different meaning of the word “faster”. In general, it makes maintenance inspections easier.

Smarter maintenance: The ARIIS provides predictive diagnostics that monitor the condition of track and infrastructure systems keeping issues from “becoming an issue”, ultimately reducing the costs of infrastructure maintenance by as much as 25%.

Data-driven insights; The ARIIS machine collects real-time analytics, improving resource management by as much as 40%, eliminating unnecessary interventions reducing metro performance.

Abdul Mohsin Kalbat, RTA’s Rail Agency CEO stated:
“Dubai is proud to be at the leading edge of smart solutions. “
